The big news this weekend is the release of the Apple iPad. Customers who pre-ordered this new touchscreen device from Apple can finally pick up their iPad beginning tomorrow, April 3rd. We doubt though that the lines will be as long as when the first iPhone hits stores 3 years ago, but according to iSuppli estimates, Apple will eventually sell a 7.1 million iPad units this 2010 with 14.4 million more coming in 2011 and an additional 20.1 million more happening in 2012. This is based on the huge number of iPad pre-order sales, and could even go higher as iSuppli still considers this as a “conservative” figure.
Given the magic that Steve Jobs wields over the gadget-obsessed public, this actually isn’t too far fetched not to become a reality despite the iPad failing to live up to most people’s expectations when it was finally announced last January. It’s a bit high though especially for a device with mixed reviews, but hey, that’s what the iPhone had to contend with back in the day and look at where it is now.
