I got one of the affected tablets. It came with some canadian guy’s google account logged in. I installed a custom ROM on it right away anyway, which wiped all data, but still thought it was odd. You’re welcome, canadian guy.

Ever heard of HTML 5 Chuck? it is called the industry standard. perhaps if you knew what you where talking about, you might know that. Even Adobe has decided to embrace it in place of your misplaced allegiance to a dying proprietary technology called flash.

It’s a shame that websites always become full of targeting each other, however I feel I should add to this discussion. Chuck, I appreciate your enthusiasm but you are a bit naive – I certainly love my playbook (got it free, in fact) and it has greatly helped me be mobile, but the Playbook is probably around as good as an iPad or other alternative. It has pretty much every app I will need (i.e. good quality apps), however there are obviously not as many choices as I would like.
@Kerry, HTML5 is the wave of the future, but many website developers and existing websites will continue to use Flash for many months if not years to come. Adobe is embracing HTML5, but they have not quit with Flash, and have only stopped updating mobile Flash, not desktop Flash. Either way, both tablets run html5 well, and Plyabook OS 2.0 beta has the highest html5 rating of any tablet.
@loup, I have in fact used an iPad2 quite extensively, and while it certainly is a great machine, I enjoy the ease of multitasking, and at times the smaller form factor RIM supplies compared to the iPad2. Also, I find it slightly misleading when some important facts are not published about the iPad 2, such as it only having 512MB RAM (something you will have to dig deep into manuals to find). I can assure you, after using both tablets, the Playbook’s 1GB of ram adds a significant boost to performance compared to the iPad2 when the task calls for it.
While this may not be the best move for RIM to give away playbooks to developers, it has certainly win me over. For some, the Playbook may not be their cup of tea, but it would be great to find a website where someone is not completely bashing RIM for anything and everything they do. They’ve got potential with QNX and the Playbook, and at the insanely low prices they’re selling them for, it puts it at a price point of tablets with less than half the performance and usability of the Playbook.

The playbook is a great tablet which has suffered from a lot of negative press mainly, which has tagged it as a mere companion tablet. Hardware wise, there really is a competitve advantage over ipads which are a pain on the multitasking. Where rim failed was to entice developers earlier, indeed. But as a reader pointed out, you do not need that many apps to be happy, but you need the right ones, good quality, and more on the pro side. We are half-way here, and plaobook OS 2.0 sure took way too long to arrive, but that does not mean the playbook user experience was bad, it just did not fulfil all the potential of the device. Rim not off the woods yet, but things are improving on the apps side. The giving away strategy is counter-intuitive but could work – developers are more savvy that common users and will discover the ease of use and multi-tasking abilities of the device, hence I am sure they will be tempted to use this potential to port their android app onto the playbook. Would be great if journalists and bloggers could try the playbook for a week or two before writing such articles, and apply more reasoning to the whole game…

Instead of fueling the already well established bias against RIM… how about do some honest blogging and just present the facts… this whole article was filled with useless dribble… I’ve used IPAD, I’ve used ASUS.. I’ve used playbook… all have pro’s and Cons… RIM obviously F**ked the pooch on the playbook and their market decision over the past 6 years. So now you ask me.. where do I stand.. I stand with competition.. I want RIM, APPLE, MICROSOFT, ASUS, INTEL, HTC everyone.. all competing int he tablet market.. because it will produce better tablets, in a more rapid fashion. that meet the needs of me and all of you frankly.

Time for all of us to wake up and realize that we are a generation morphed by advertisement… I move that over 80% of the articles we read, even from wired, are subject to slimey tentacles of CASH!!!
